Nation's Leading School Safety Organizations Launch School Safety Quarterly

New collective impact publication unites the field's foremost nonprofits under a single editorial voice to advance the practice, policy, and culture of school safety across America .

Nation's Leading School Safety Organizations Launch School Safety Quarterly

A coalition of the nation's most respected school safety and security organizations today announced the launch of School Safety Quarterly, a free, public-service publication designed to bring rigorous, balanced, and actionable content to school administrators, safety practitioners, and policymakers nationwide.

Unlike traditional trade publications tied to a single organization or point of view, the Quarterly is a collective impact effort - built and governed by an Editorial Board drawn from across the full spectrum of the school safety field. No single organization, approach, or solution holds all the answers to keeping schools safe. The Quarterly exists to reflect that reality, bridging research and practice through shared expertise rather than a single institutional lens.

"Safer schools require collective action — across disciplines, across sectors, and across the aisle," the Editorial Board Chair, Guy Bliesner said. "This is not a publication about quick fixes. It is a publication about generational change: the kind that comes from shared knowledge, honest dialogue, and a sustained commitment to making our schools safer for good."

A Founding Editorial Board Representing the Full Field

The Quarterly's Editorial Board reviews all content submissions and includes representatives from nine leading nonprofit organizations spanning superintendents, facilities and infrastructure, safety operations, and stakeholder advocacy:

  • Guy Bliesner, President, National Council of School Safety Directors (NCSSD) Editorial Board Chair
  • Erin McCallum, Chief Communications Officer, AASA, The School Superintendents Association
  • Pat Hamilton, Alliance Director, The "I Love U Guys" Foundation
  • Lori Alhadeff, Co-Founder & CEO, Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS)
  • Dr. Brandon Payne, Executive Director, National Council on School Facilities (NCSF)
  • Dr. Jeffrey Vincent, Director, National Center on School Infrastructure (NCSI)
  • Dr. Stacey Hall, Executive Director, National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4)
  • Ken Wertz, Executive Director, National School Plant Management Association (NSPMA)
  • Chuck Wilson, Chairman, Partner Alliance for Safe Schools (PASS)
  • Michele Gay, Founder and Executive Director, Safe and Sound Schools
  • Dr. Lewis Eakins, Board Member, ZeroNow

Together, these organizations represent the depth of expertise, experience, and perspective that the complex challenge of school safety demands — from physical infrastructure and facilities management to emergency response, mental health, athletics security, and community advocacy.

Mission: Inform Decisions, Elevate What Works, Spark Change

Every issue of the Quarterly is designed to serve practitioners directly — informing decisions, elevating proven strategies, and sparking the conversations that lead to lasting change in how schools approach safety and security. Content is developed and vetted by the Editorial Board to ensure it meets a standard of rigor and balance that the field, and the students and staff it serves, deserve.

The School Safety Quarterly is offered as a free public service and is available now, with subscriptions open to school leaders, safety directors, policymakers, and the broader school safety community.

Availability

The School Safety Quarterly is available now at SchoolSafetyQuarterly.org where readers can subscribe for free and safety practitioners can submit articles for editorial review.
