PASS Offers Free Digital Checklists for School Safety Assessments
PASS has made its School Safety & Security Checklists available in a free digital format, helping school safety teams assess campuses, identify security gaps, track progress, and generate reports.
The Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS), a nonprofit partner of the National Council of School Safety Directors (NCSSD), offers free digitized versions of its School Safety & Security Checklists, allowing school safety teams to complete assessments online, collaborate with colleagues, track progress, and export reports.
Built on the widely used PASS School Safety & Security Guidelines, the platform helps districts identify security gaps, prioritize improvements, and document progress over time. Schools can complete assessments at their own pace, attach findings to individual campuses, and generate PDF or Excel reports to support planning, documentation, and ongoing security improvements.
According to PASS, the digital checklists were developed to streamline the assessment process and encourage more consistent, data-driven security evaluations.
The digital checklists are organized into five areas:
- District-wide planning
- Digital infrastructure
- Campus exterior perimeter
- Building perimeter
- Classroom and interior security
While PASS encourages schools to use the online platform to streamline assessments and reporting, printable and fillable PDF versions remain available for districts that prefer those formats or need offline access.
PASS is a nonprofit coalition of education, public safety, and industry organizations that develops consensus-based school safety and security guidelines and best practices. Its guidelines organize recommendations into Foundational, Advanced, and Ideal practices, helping districts assess their current security posture and prioritize future investments based on their needs and available resources.
The PASS Guidelines are designed for school safety directors, district administrators, facilities personnel, architects, law enforcement partners, and others responsible for planning, evaluating, or improving school security.
